TARA is HOME for ALL DREAMERS!
TARA is a green retreat, a training center, a yoga space, a healing, letting go, and resting place. TARA is a peaceful place for group retreats, workshops, trainings, research, tours, solo stays, and other events.
Come all! You are invited to enter a sacred space where you can heal, reconnect, discover yourself, rest, dream, create, reinvent yourself and emerge into a new person- or a new vision.
If you are passionate and deeply care about living in harmony with nature, then consider TARA your home away from home in the Himalayas.
TARA (Training And Research Academy) is the first feminist and eco-friendly retreat and training centre in India. Its attractive new facilities are nestled in the spectacularly beautiful foothills of the Dhauladhar Mountains in Himachal Pradesh.
Come to TARA for a retreat or training filled with inspiration, purpose and pleasure. While here you can relax and enjoy the area’s fascinating natural and cultural bounty, including Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist temples, art galleries, hiking trails, bird watching, organic gardening, nearby Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj, and more. You can also participate in gender justice and sustainable development related fieldwork. Your experience can be tailored to your interests.
TARA has 20 double rooms, 2 dormitories, 2 conference rooms, a library, a large kitchen with 2 dining rooms, delicious organic food, and a flower garden. TARA’s center is strictly vegetarian, providing homemade multigrain bread, cookies, pasta, home grown salads, and seasonal vegetables, grains, and fruits.
The TARA Center is available for booking retreats, workshops, conferences, seminars, celebrations, and vacations for individuals and groups. TARA especially welcomes workshops in the fields of alternative healing (reikki, pranic healing, non-violent communication, herbal and ayurvedic training, etc.), meditation, alternative agriculture, and yoga.
The TARA team will organize all of your logistics.
TARA is a sister organization of Jagori Rural Charitable Trust (JRCT), a rural registered nonprofit organization respected for its community-based work with women’s and youth collectives, farmers' groups, and school children in 150 local villages. https://www.jagorigrameen.org
Under the Jagori Rural Charitable Trust (JRCT) initiative, TARA was envisioned by Abha Bhaiya in 2007, and registered as a separate trust.
TARA promotes justice, dignity and peace, as well as agricultural practices in harmony with nature. Our volunteers come from across the world to lend their time and expertise to help us grow.
We are located in Sidhbari, in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, in northern India, approximately 9 km (6 miles) south of Dharamsala.
This being human is a guesthouse
every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
